On November 19, 2024, students from the Prosthetics and Orthotics Department of the Pakistan Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences (PIRS) embarked on an educational visit to the Pakistan Institute of Prosthetic and Orthotic Sciences (PIPOS) in Peshawar. This tour, aimed at enriching the students’ practical knowledge and understanding of the field, was organized with the support of PIPOS management.
The students were warmly welcomed at PIPOS and were taken on a comprehensive tour of various departments. They received detailed briefings about the institute’s operations, including prosthetic and orthotic manufacturing, patient care services, and the research initiatives undertaken to advance rehabilitation sciences in Pakistan.
PIPOS, established in 1981, stands as one of the premier institutes in Pakistan dedicated to the education and development of professionals in prosthetics and orthotics. It plays a pivotal role in providing high-quality assistive devices and rehabilitation services to individuals with physical disabilities, while also focusing on skill development and technological advancements in the field.
The students of PIRS were particularly impressed by the cutting-edge facilities and the innovative solutions employed by PIPOS in designing and manufacturing custom prosthetic and orthotic devices. Discussions with experts further illuminated the challenges and opportunities within the rehabilitation sciences domain in Pakistan.
