Sindh Governor Signs Landmark Bill to Enhance Physical Medicine, Rehabilitation Services

Karachi: In a significant move aimed at improving services for individuals with disabilities, Sindh Governor Mohammed Kamran Khan Tessori has signed the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Amendment Bill 2024, officially transferring the administrative control of the Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation from the Sindh Health Department to the Department of Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The amendment, announced via an official communique on Monday, marks a pivotal shift in the institution’s management structure. Governor Tessori emphasized the importance of this development, stating, “This is a major step forward by the Sindh government in advancing the welfare of persons with disabilities. The new management will enable the institute to deliver enhanced services and greater support to disabled individuals.”

The amendment underscores the Sindh government’s commitment to prioritizing the needs of persons with disabilities by placing their care and rehabilitation under specialized oversight. The governor remarked that the change reflects a broader effort to bolster resources, accessibility, and efficiency within the province’s rehabilitation framework.
