KARACHI: BIONIKS, a Pakistani startup specializing in AI Powered prosthetics, has unveiled a mobile AI-powered limb factory in Gaza to assist amputees in the conflict-hit region. Established in 2016, the Karachi-based company announced the initiative on Wednesday as part of its mission to harness technology to improve lives.
The mobile factory, equipped with state-of-the-art artificial intelligence tools, is designed to create customized prosthetic arms and legs on-site, providing much-needed assistance to underserved and conflict-affected areas.
“We believe technology has the power to transform lives,” BIONIKS stated. “By taking advanced prosthetic solutions directly to those in need, we aim to restore independence, mobility, and dignity to individuals affected by conflict and hardship.”
This initiative comes as Gaza faces a worsening humanitarian crisis following the onset of Israel’s military campaign in October 2023. BIONIKS hopes the mobile factory will serve as a lifeline for amputees by offering accessible, cutting-edge solutions in a region where resources are scarce.
BIONIKS has been at the forefront of innovation in prosthetics. In 2021, the company gained international recognition for creating a multi-grip bionic arm for four-year-old Mohammed Sideeq, making him the youngest recipient of such advanced technology.
“No one in the world has ever made a bionic arm for such a young age,” said Anas Niaz, co-founder of BIONIKS, in a 2021 interview. “We knew this was nearly impossible, but Mohammed had high hopes to get a bionic arm.”
The lightweight and durable prosthetic allowed the young boy to resume daily activities such as playing and buttoning his shirt, demonstrating BIONIKS’ commitment to blending innovation with functionality.
With its Gaza initiative, BIONIKS reaffirms its belief in the transformative power of technology. By delivering prosthetic solutions to those in need, the company continues to lead efforts in creating an inclusive world for individuals facing physical challenges.
