Rawalpindi – November 29-30, 2024: Abdul Majid, a proud alumnus of Rawalpindi Medical University (RMU), returned to his alma mater to lead a transformative two-day training session on Transfemoral Amputation and Prosthesis Fabrication, with a special focus on the Quadrilateral Socket Design. Held at Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), Rawalpindi, the session aimed to equip RMU students and medical professionals with advanced skills while fostering a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
Abdul Majid graduated in Orthotics Prosthetics from RMU in 2017 and has an impressive professional journey, having worked as a Consultant Prosthetist and Orthotist at Recep Tayyip Erdogan Hospital from October 2017 to December 2023. He currently serves as a Prosthetist Orthotist at Healthpoint Hospital, Mubadala Health, UAE.
The training was organized by RMU and attended by a diverse audience, including second, third, and fourth-year students of Prosthetics and Orthotics (P&O), faculty members, orthopedic surgeons, physiotherapists, and postgraduate trainee medical officers. The event emphasized practical learning, including the assessment, casting, and modification techniques for transfemoral socket fabrication.


The event was inaugurated by Dr. Obaid ur Rehman, Head of the Orthopedic Department at BBH, alongside esteemed faculty members such as PO Ajla Javaid, P&O Coordinator at RMU, and PO Seemab Asif, Lecturer in Prosthetics and Orthotics. Dr. Amir Niazi, Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon at BBH, also graced the session with his insights.



Addressing the audience, Abdul Majid highlighted the importance of integrating P&O expertise into the multidisciplinary medical team. He engaged in detailed discussions with orthopedic surgeons, physiotherapists, and other professionals, successfully advocating for the recognition of P&O as an essential component of holistic patient care.
Speaking about the significance of the event, Abdul Majid said, “As an RMU graduate, returning to train the next generation of professionals was a deeply meaningful experience. RMU played a pivotal role in shaping my career, and this was my opportunity to give back and empower others in this vital field.”


The training session concluded on a hopeful note, with participants expressing gratitude and enthusiasm for future collaborations. The event successfully set the groundwork for strengthening the culture of teamwork among healthcare professionals, with a commitment from orthopedic surgeons and physiotherapists to integrate P&O expertise into their practices.
