PESHAWAR – The Prosthetics and Orthotics Discipline Society (IDS) of Khyber Medical University (KMU) continues its commitment to advancing knowledge and professional development in the field of rehabilitation. In line with this mission, the university recently organized a workshop titled “Orthotics and Its Importance in Physical Rehabilitation” on October 23, 2024.The event aimed to provide guidance and motivation to the next generation of healthcare professionals in these specialized fields.
The workshop was led by Mr. Shad Mohammad Khan, Orthotist and CEO of Frontier Medical Dubai, who also serves as a Lecturer at the University of Sharjah and Gulf Medical University in the UAE. The event was attended by faculty members from the Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (IPMR) at KMU, including Mr. Abdul Haseeb, Mr. Arsalan Rasool, Mr. Farhan Shah, and Mr. Shakir (PT).
During the interactive session, Mr. Khan emphasized the critical role that orthotics play in the rehabilitation process, particularly for patients with mobility impairments. He discussed the various applications of orthotic devices and how they contribute to improving the quality of life for individuals undergoing physical rehabilitation.
“Our future professionals need to understand the profound impact orthotics can have on patient outcomes in rehabilitation. It is crucial that they are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to offer effective solutions,” said Mr. Khan, highlighting the need for continued education and specialization in this growing field. “The future of our profession rests in the hands of these young professionals. They need our thorough guidance and support,” He added.
During the workshop, participants gained valuable insights into the latest advancements in lower limb orthosis. The session provided a thorough overview of patient assessment, orthotic device fitting, and strategies aimed at improving patient outcomes. The event also included a presentation competition, where three students from the Pioneer Batch 1 BSP&O, IPMR, KMU showcased their knowledge and skills.The workshop also provided students with an opportunity to engage with Mr. Khan directly, asking questions about the practical challenges faced in the field of orthotics and prosthetics. The session aimed to inspire the students, offering them guidance on how to succeed in their professional journey.
Mr. Khan emphasized the importance of continued support and mentorship for students as they prepare to enter their professional careers. He encouraged the students to stay focused and motivated, reminding them of the vital role they will play in shaping the future of healthcare in Pakistan.
The workshop concluded with a certificate and prize distribution ceremony. In recognition of his invaluable contribution, Mr. Shad Mohammad Khan was presented with a commemorative shield. Prizes and certificates were also awarded to participants of the presentation competition, applauding their outstanding engagement and dedication.
