The Pakistan Society for Rehabilitation of Differently Abled (PSRD), a non-profit organization, has come a long way since its humble beginnings in a single room in 1957. Today, PSRD operates a 110-bed hospital, serves 273 students, including 153 special children at its high school, and offers a wide range of services. These include physiotherapy, occupational and speech therapy, community-based rehabilitation, vocational training, skill development, and an advanced orthotics and prosthetics center. PSRD has also established a dedicated college, reinforcing its commitment to holistic care and rehabilitation. With a staff of over 250, PSRD is guided by a Board of Governors composed of volunteers who ensure strong governance and oversight. Each day, life-changing surgeries and treatments are carried out, particularly for children with disabilities.
The organization is well known for providing orthoses and prostheses to children affected by paralysis, performing hip and knee joint replacements, treating clubfoot, and offering physiotherapy through state-of-the-art equipment. Thanks to the placement of artificial limbs, many children who once struggled with mobility are now able to stand and walk independently, offering them hope for a brighter future.
As per the annual report , Orthotics and Prosthetics Centre at the Pakistan Society for Rehabilitation of Differently Abled (PSRD) , Lahore, has made remarkable strides in supporting individuals with physical disabilities. Over the past year, the O&P Centre attended to 5,191 patients and manufactured and delivered 4,972 custom-made Orthotic devices, including upper and lower limb prostheses, splints, braces, and orthopedic shoes. In addition to these appliances, the O&P Centre has seen strong demand for silicone items, hyperextension braces, and lumbo-sacral corsets, which are often delivered to patients during their initial visit, streamlining the process and enhancing patient care. As part of the ALTSO project, 336 patients received 514 specialized appliances, further extending PSRD’s outreach and impact. This project plays a critical role in providing accessible, high-quality orthotic and prosthetic care to underserved communities. These statistics underscore PSRD’s commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities, offering solutions that enable them to live more independent, fulfilling lives.
PSRD has made it its mission to overcome these challenges, especially for families who cannot afford quality treatment.
